Serum 2 Upgrade FAQ
Who gets Serum 2 for free?
Serum 2 is a free upgrade for:
- Users who purchased Serum 1 directly from Xfer Records or a reseller
- Users who rented Serum 1 through the Splice Rent-to-Own program
Will my existing projects automatically update to Serum 2?
No. Projects using Serum 1 will not automatically update to Serum 2. This is intentional, as you'll want to manually update your tracks to ensure everything sounds exactly as intended in your songs.
What about preset compatibility?
- Serum 1 presets are fully compatible with Serum 2 (and your Serum 1 presets will automatically be shown in Serum 2's preset browser)
- Serum 2 presets cannot be loaded in Serum 1
- Ratings applied to Serum 1 presets in Serum 1 will be transferred over to Serum 2 the first time you launch Serum 2
- Serum 1 wavetables and noise files are provided in Serum 2, so if you don't need to user Serum 1, you can move your presets to Serum 2 preset folder and remove the Serum 1 preset folder.
Can I keep using Serum 1 after upgrading?
Yes! After activating your Serum 2 update, you can continue using Serum 1. Both versions can be installed simultaneously on your system but we strongly encourage you to migrate to Serum 2, the CPU usage will be the same or less and Serum 1 reached end-of-life (fixes and new features aren't expected to be added to Serum 1)
What if I'm using Splice Rent-to-Own?
If you're currently on the Splice Rent-to-Own program for Serum 1:
- You'll get access to both Serum 1 and Serum 2
- There will be no price increase
- Your payment terms remain the same
What about CPU usage and system requirements?
- Serum 2 is optimized to use the same or less CPU than Serum 1 for equivalent patches
- However, some new features in Serum 2 may require more processing power
- Consider your computer's specifications when using these new features or presets using those features
